UH80012 Japanese Buddhist soft wood sculpture of Jizo, the protector of women, children and travellers, a simple wood carving for a small shrine depicting a seated shaved head figure on a lotus bud throne with the left leg dangling, costumed in carved relief folds of robes worn, bare at the chest, the right hand clasped forward to hold a staff (missing), the wish fulfilling jewel held in the left hand. Extensive pigment losses, wear and soot adhesion, overall good condition. 4-5/8" High x 2-1/2" Wide x 2" Deep. Edo Period. 19th Century. $300.
