NH21019 Early Japanese Takeda Ningyo of a kabuki actor in the role of Kumagai Naozane from the play Kumagai Jinya (1751) based on the Atsumori chapter from the classic Tale of Heike, where Kumagai retells the story of taking Atsumori’s head, standing upright holding a fan in his left hand, costumed in a green cloud & dragon kinran brocade kabuki outfit, and the traditional long pant legs to accentuate the movement of the actor, the sleeves with cloud couched embroidery on chirimen silk, the head and hair carved of wood covered in gofun with painted features, all on a traditional small black lacquered stage base with inset foliage painted panel. Signs of age, minor textile restoration on lapel, otherwise fine condition. Measuring overall: 14” high x 7-1/4” wide x 6” deep.
