UH30155 Indonesian bridal pair reverse glass painting, an unusual Javanese painted rendition of colored pigments painted on glass in the reverse glass technique depicting “Loro Blonyo” (inseparable pair) representing Dewi Sri (the Goddess of Rice & Fertility) with her consort Dewa Sadono, possibly to have been placed in a shrine for Dewi Sri often taking the form of a ritual marriage bed and a painting such as this would be removed for an actual wedding ceremony to take their place. Here rendered as two yellow skinned male and female figures seated cross-legged and dressed in jewelry and finery with a male and female attendant on each side, seated on a red covered ground, light blue background with supplemental red, white and blue banners, framed in a later wood and red velvet frame. Minor signs of age otherwise fine condition. Image measures: 12” x 15”, Frame overall measures: 18” x 21”.
