UH30109 Large Japanese Togatta Kokeshi, Miyagi prefecture, a narrow columnar body, tapering at the shoulder, square globular head, characteristic (tegara) red chrysanthemum painting on the head, with the black facial features having narrow open eyes, (ware-bana) split nose, and side and fore lock hair, the body decorated in bands top and bottom and a set of two large stacked blossoms (kasanegiku) on the shaft. Ink signature on the base, "Sato Shigekazu". Minor worn surface pigments on the shaft otherwise fine condition. 16-3/4" high x 4" in diameter. 20th Century.
