UH30144 Large Japanese Sakunami Kokeshi, Yamagata, Miyagi prefecture, by Hiraga Tadashi (b. 1937) a mizuki (dogwood) carved curvaceous columnar body flared at the base, hard shoulder, square globular head, painted with bangs, pony tail, side locks all decorated with red mizuhike, wide open eyes, teardrop nose, tiny red lips, the body decorated in bands of red and green with flower blossoms at the waist. Ink signature  on the base "Hiraga Tadashi, August 5, Showa 55 (1980). Minor signs of water spotting at the base otherwise fine condition. 16-1/4" high x 4" in diameter. Dated 1980.
