UH30110 Japanese Togatta Kokeshi, Miyagi prefecture, a narrow columnar body, tapering at the shoulder, square globular head, characteristic (tegara) red chrysanthemum painting on the head, with the facial features with narrow open eyes, (ware-bana) split nose, and hair depicted in black, the body decorated in two bands top and bottom and a set of three red stacked blossoms (kasanegiku) on the shaft. Ink signature on the base, "Yoshiro from Sendai". Minor worn surface pigments and minor hairline splits to the head otherwise fine condition. 9-1/4" high x 2-3/4" in diameter. 20th Century.
