UH30124 Japanese Hijiori Kokeshi, Hiijori Onsen,Yamagata prefecture, hard wood, a narrow columnar body, hard shoulder, separate globular head with flattened top, pegged into the body by a dowel so that the head turns, traditional (tegara)red chrysanthemum painting on the head, with the facial features with open double lidded arched eyes, "U" shaped nagabana long nose, and hair depicted in black, red lips, the body decorated in bands at the neck and base with a set of four green and red stacked chrysanthemum blossoms on the shaft. Ink signature  on the base, "Suzuki Seiichi" (first prize winner of the 2006 all Japan Kokeshi competition). Excellent condition. 7-1/8" high x 2-1/4" in diameter. 20th Century.
