NG92016 Japanese Ariake Andon, a day break lantern constructed of hinoki (Chaemaecyprus obtusa) lacquered black with front sliding access window and cover having a large rectangular window pane front aperture with curved edges and smaller side window pane cutouts on the sides. The cover also serves as a base with the underside fitting snugly on top of the cover complete with overhead wire handle and interior raised oil dish stand, newly papered with patterned rice paper. Minor signs of wear otherwise fine condition. 16-1/2 in. High x 9 in. Square. Circa 1880. $1,000.
