NH11020 Japanese Tosa School album leaf painting depicting Chapter 21 Otome from the “The Tale of Genji” where Akikonomu, the new empress, has her servant deliver Murasaki a gift of a lacquer box filled with an autumn leaf arrangement. the scene depicted in traditional fukinuki-yatai ("roof blown away") style showing the servant on a connecting bridge over a stream carrying the gift to the wing of the estate where Murasaki is seated with two women, all painted in ink and mineral pigments on paper with gold leaf clouds. Minor water stains, small linear puncture in lower corner, signs of age and wear otherwise fine condition. 10-1/2" High x 8-13/16" Wide. 18th Century. $1,800.
