UH11010 Japanese album leaf painting from the Heike Monogatari a scene from the night before the battle of Fujigawa better known as “the battle that never was”, here Taira Koremori is being suited up in his armor by an attendant, the warrior standing and carrying his long sword, the suit of armor he is wearing has the nanten crest on the breast plate his under kimono with a design of butterflies (a Taira reference), the attendant is costumed in two robes, each with the a design of cranes, a reference to the the fact that the Taira took flight upon hearing the numbers of the Minamoto forces they were about to fight, all painted in ink, mineral and gold pigments in detail on paper with speckled gold leaf mist. Water stains and signs of wear otherwise fine condition. 7-7/8” High x 10-3/8” Wide.
