QH00045 A rare Chinese Jet Toggle, Jet (lignite) is a rare velvety black gem for the Chinese, a type of amber derived from fossilized trees, symbolic of longevity, believed to be worn to ward off ailments, due to the property of retaining static electricity, carved into a large black cuboctahedron (a polyhedron consisting of six square faces and 8 triangular faces, otherwise known as a “Chinese Bolthead”), decorated with simple shallow drill hole designs with center drilled brass pin with floral escutcheons, the top pierced ball finial serves as the point of attachment for a cord or ring.
