UH30019 Chinese carved Boxwood Votive Toggle, a circular plaque design with high relief carving and undercutting of a central standing Buddhist image holding a staff with a mandorla behind him, seven human disciples at his feet with two cranes in flight on one side and two deer on the other, combined with a mountainous landscape background with foliage, the rim rubbed smooth and two pierced holes at the top serving as the point of attachment, the reverse side having a key fret border and a central flaming tablet with a four character inscription translated as “One Country Great Way”. Signs of wear and use, front layer of carving rubbed smooth, some loss of detail, otherwise fine condition. 3-1/8” in Diameter. 19th Century.
